Dear Parent,
Pandemic EBT helps families buy groceries when students are learning remotely or in a hybrid situation because of COVID. The state is now distributing the latest round of benefits, which covers Sept. 2020 through June 2021.
Only students approved to receive free/low-cost school meals through the National School Lunch Program may qualify for P-EBT.
To qualify for funds when they become available, parents and other caregivers must:
- Fill out a school meals application, if not already approved or attending a school that provides free meals to all students (CEP). Families that have lost a job or have less income should apply again in case they are now eligible. Contact your school for an application.
- If your child is already approved to receive free/low-cost meals, check with your school district to make sure your child’s address and birthdate are correct.
Remember, you can still receive free school meals if your district is distributing food during the pandemic.
Re: Get ready for new food assistance!
Dear Parent,
Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) helps families buy groceries when students are learning remotely because of COVID.
Students approved to receive free or reduced-price school meals may qualify for P-EBT. We encourage parents to complete a school meals application at (insert link), if you have not already done so. If your child is already approved, please, contact (insert contact info) to make sure your child’s address and birthdate are correct.
You may be eligible for this assistance even if your school is providing meals during remote learning. Accepting this aid will not hurt a family’s immigration status. You will be provided with a card you can use to buy food at grocery stores and other retail stores that accept SNAP (food stamps). Visit njsnap.gov for the most current information.
Hey Parents! Get ready for new food aid for your kids!
As so many of our community’s children struggle to make ends meet during this pandemic, new food assistance will be provided in the coming months.
Pandemic EBT — P-EBT for short — provides funds to help families with school-age children buy groceries when students are learning remotely or in a hybrid situation because of COVID.
Only students approved to receive free/low-cost school meals through the National School Lunch Program may qualify for P-EBT.
To make sure children receive this important assistance, parents and other caregivers should:
- Fill out a school meals application, if they have not already. Families that have lost a job or have less income should also apply again in case they are now eligible.
- If your child is already approved to receive free or low-cost school meals, check with your school district to make sure child’s address and birthdate are correct. Some parents missed out on the first round because of wrong addresses or other incorrect information. This will help get your benefits without any problems.
- Ensure your school district submitted information about eligible students to the state Department of Human Services.
No application or action is necessary. Also, it is important to note that accepting this help will NOT hurt a family’s immigration status. Families can also qualify even if they are receiving free meals from their school district during the pandemic.
The P-EBT card works like a debit card to buy groceries anywhere SNAP benefits (also known as food stamps) are accepted. This assistance can help fill the food gap when during the pandemic.
This is much needed assistance for families who are struggling due to the ongoing COVID health emergency. For more information, visit njsnap.gov.
Please join us and Hunger Free New Jersey in spreading the word about Pandemic EBT, as the state distributes the next round to parents of school-age children. This statewide communication campaign is aimed at heading off some of the difficulties parents encountered during the first round. Hunger Free New Jersey has developed a very simple way to share web graphics and disseminate

Please help us inform parents about this critical food assistance that is available to school-age children during the pandemic. As families struggle to make ends meet, we need to do everything we can to ensure all families get the help they need.
